Industrial sockets should be used with care

With the popularity of household appliances, the number of industrial sockets in the home has gradually increased. But if it is not installed properly, it will become a "stealth bomb" buried in the wall. According to the relevant survey data of the Ministry of Public Security, among the cumulative fire accidents in China in the past 10 years, the fires caused by short circuits of power sockets, switches and circuit breakers accounted for nearly 30% of the total.

Myth 1: The position of the industrial socket is too low. Many homes feel that the socket is too high and unsightly when installing it, so it will be installed in a lower hidden position. However, Dr. Xia Dong of the Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said that it is easy to splash water on the socket when mopping the floor, resulting in leakage accidents. The industry stipulates that the distance between the surface-mounted socket and the ground shall not be less than 1.8 meters, and the concealed socket shall not be less than 0.3 meters from the ground. Sockets in the kitchen and bathroom are at least 1.5 meters from the ground, and the outlets in the air conditioner are at least 2 meters from the ground.

Myth 2: The wire of the industrial socket is installed at will with the cross-section of the copper wire. If you live in an old house, replace the original aluminum wire with copper wire. Because aluminum wire is prone to oxidation, joints are prone to fire. A survey has shown that the incidence of electrical fires in houses using aluminum wires is dozens of times higher than that of copper wires. In addition, for the sake of aesthetics, many families use the method of slotted buried wire and hidden pipe laying. Xia Dong reminded that the principle of "live wire enters the switch, and the neutral wire enters the lamp head" should be followed when wiring, and a leakage protection device should be installed on the socket.

Myth 3: Industrial sockets lack protection measures. Kitchens and bathrooms are often filled with water and oil fumes. Therefore, installing a splash-proof tank or plastic baffle on the socket panel can effectively prevent short circuits caused by oil and water vapor intrusion. For families with children, to prevent children from touching the socket hole with their fingers or metal objects, choose an outlet with a safety cover.

In addition, some decoration companies often make the ground wire useless when installing three-hole industrial sockets, or even connect the ground wire directly to the gas pipeline. These practices are very dangerous, according to the source. The ground wire is connected to the enclosure of the appliance. Once an electrical appliance leaks, it will cause an electric shock.

Myth 4: The practice of multiple electrical appliances sharing the same socket will overload the electrical appliances and cause fires. Use separate outlets for high-power appliances such as air conditioners, washing machines, and range hoods. Generally speaking, 4 sets of sockets are installed in the bedroom, one for every 2.5 square meters in the living room, and one set for every 1.2 square meters in the kitchen.

Myth 5: There is only one line There is only one line for old houses. As soon as any electrical circuit is shorted, the electricity supply to the entire room is paralyzed. Generally speaking, industrial sockets can choose two or three circles, one circle in the kitchen, one circle in the bathroom, and one circle in the air conditioner.

The manufacture and installation of socket plugs should strictly comply with the following safety requirements

1. The installation of the socket board should be neat and consistent, generally from the front of the socket, arranged in a clockwise direction: the ground (E) phase (A) and the bottom of the middle socket are often marked.

2. The arrangement of the socket plug should be able to prevent contact with the live body and prevent one-foot insertion (that is, one foot is inserted into the person, and one foot is outside).

3. The connection of the three-core wire on the plug should be correct. The wire core connected to the shell should not be connected incorrectly to avoid the shell being electrified.
